Near fixes an unimpressed stare on Jude's face and nods a slow, lip-gnawing acknowledgement of everything he's accomplished so far.
Convinced a few people.
Like he's Tinkerbell. Like if enough of the audience claps their hands, the sheer force of their collective belief will bring about a miracle.
(Hell, maybe that's a fact.)
Still, Near -- not being versed in the obscure field of magical mindvibes -- figures it's doubtful that anything will come of convincing a few people. Finds himself wondering to what end anyone is being convinced of anything.
But Jude doesn't have an end, does he? Not a real one. He didn't then, he wanted dead Courtland to figure it out. He doesn't now. He's just running around aimlessly, glancing over his shoulder. Doesn't matter.
"Let's get rid of them," Near says. Because he does have an end. A very specific one that has nothing to do with impending apocalypses and everything to do with erasing Jude's cult buddies or whatever the fuck they are off the face of the earth, and to save his life he hasn't been able to remove Jude from any sketched-out picture of getting it accomplished.
